Why Use Drilling Buckets?

Drilling buckets are a good all-around digging option. These drills can work in various ground conditions. You can buy or hire units with multiple types of cutting teeth. Or, you can switch teeth according to your ground conditions.

So, you can use these buckets to drill on different sites with different ground conditions. They also work well if you are working on ground that has different soil types, consistencies, rock coverage, or water content. They give you a versatile and easy-to-use way of digging at even deep foundation levels.

The hard sides of the bucket's cylindrical tub also give you more stability as you drill. The tub will hold back earth as its teeth drill down. It packs the sides of the hole to make them more stable. It also creates a barrier on its drilled surfaces. You don't have to worry about contaminating the earth with drilling fluids or solids.

Plus, you don't have to find other ways to pack earth down or remove it from a drilling site. The bucket automatically collects the earth it drills out. You then simply lift the bucket out of the ground to remove the earth from the space. This speeds up your drilling work.

Components of a Drilling Bucket

Cutting Edge

This is the lower part of the bucket that comes into contact with the material being drilled. It often features teeth or cutting blades made from hard, wear-resistant materials to enhance cutting efficiency.

01

Body

The main structure of the bucket that holds the excavated material. It is usually cylindrical or slightly conical to facilitate the collection and removal of debris.

02

Gates or Flaps

Located at the bottom of the bucket, these gates open and close to allow the material to enter and be retained within the bucket during drilling and lifting.

03

Square Box

This mechanism attaches the bucket to the drilling rig and provides the rotational force needed to drive the bucket into the ground.

How Do Drilling Buckets Work?

Drilling buckets fit onto the end of drilling machines. These large tub-like devices typically have an open cylindrical container with drilling teeth at the base. The base of the bucket can open or close, either manually or automatically, depending on the stage of your work.

So, when you start drilling down into the ground, the bucket is open. Its teeth go around and dig through the earth. As they cut up the ground, it moves up into the holding bucket. When it is full, you close the base of the bucket and raise it up out of its hole.

You then swing the bucket over your debris pile or even move it to another part of your site. To offload the cut earth, you simply open the base of the bucket, and it will empty out. You then put the bucket back in its hole, open it up and start digging down deeper again.

How to Choose the Right Drilling Bucket for Needs

Drill buckets can be classified based on various factors such as their design, purpose, and drilling method. Here are some common classifications

Single Bottom Drill Buckets: These buckets have a single cutting edge at the bottom and are used for general-purpose drilling in soil and soft rock formations.

Double Bottom Drill Buckets: These buckets have two cutting edges at the bottom, which provide more stability and efficiency in drilling through harder rock formations.

Rock Drill Buckets: Specifically designed for drilling in hard rock formations, these buckets feature heavy-duty cutting teeth or carbide buttons to withstand the high drilling forces.drill auger

Clay Drill Buckets: These buckets are designed to efficiently cut and remove cohesive soils, such as clay and silt. They often have wider clearance between the teeth to prevent clogging.

Clean out Drill Buckets: These buckets have a larger capacity and are used for removing drilling spoils and debris from the borehole during。

To use a drill bucket, follow these steps:
Prepare the drilling rig: Ensure that the drilling rig is properly set up and secured on stable ground. Make sure all safety precautions are taken, such as wearing personal protective equipment.

Select the appropriate drill bucket: Choose a drill bucket that matches the size and type of material you need to excavate. Consider factors like soil conditions, rock hardness, and the desired diameter of the hole.auger for drill

Attach the drill bucket: Connect the drill bucket to the drilling rig using the appropriate attachment mechanism.Make sure they are fixed in place and connected tightly to prevent the drill bucket from falling off and injuring anyone.

How to a Drilling Bucket for Long Auger Rigs?

Stroking bedrock: Equipped with a pickaxe type core drill bit - conical spiral drill bit - double bottom rotary drill bucket, or a straight spiral drill bit with a pickaxe - double bottom rotary drill bucket.

For silt: Weakly cohesive soil layers, sandy soil, and poorly cemented pebble layers with smaller particle sizes, double-layer bottom drilling buckets can be used.

Hard cement: Choose a rotary drilling bucket with a single soil inlet (single bottom and double bottom), or a straight screw with bucket teeth.

Clay: Use a single-layer bottom rotating drill bucket. If the diameter is too small, a two petal bucket or a drill bucket with a soil dumping plate can be used.

Cemented pebbles, gravels, and strongly weathered rocks: Conical drill bits and double-layer rotary drill buckets (large particle size single port, small particle size double port) are required

Slightly weathered bedrock: Use a cone core drill bit, a conical spiral drill bit, and a double bottom rotary excavator. If the diameter is too large, a graded drilling process should be used.

Frozen soil layer: For areas with low ice content, straight spiral buckets and rotary excavators can be used, while for areas with high ice content, conical drills can be used. It should be noted that the drill bit is effective for soil layers (excluding silt and silt), but they must be used in the absence of groundwater to avoid being sucked in and causing jamming.

All precautions when using rotary Drilling Bucket

Precautions before Drilling Bucket
①,Check whether the welding points around the Drilling Bucket are open, and pay special attention to the connection parts of the square head, the top plate and the bottom plate;

②,Check whether the Drilling Bucket teeth are complete and the degree of wear of the teeth, and pay close attention to the degree of wear of the side teeth for timely replacement to protect the barrel from wear;

③,Confirm that the square head of the Drilling Bucket bit is firmly connected with the square head of the drill pipe, whether the connection pin shaft is intact, and whether the connection pin fixing device is proper to prevent the bottom of the hole from being disconnected;

④, Confirm whether the bottom mechanism of the drill bit is flexible and easy to use. A simple opening and closing test can be performed to check whether the hook rebounds smoothly and whether there is any sign of loosening when the hook is shaken after closing the door to prevent the door from opening at the bottom of the hole;

⑤,Check whether the hinge of the drill bottom plate is intact, whether there is open welding, and whether the hinge pin is blown out unilaterally to prevent the bottom of the bucket from falling off;

⑥,Check whether the connection between the drill bottom plate and the rotating bottom plate is intact, whether the center fixing pin is intact, and whether the pin nut fixing device is loose;
